When many people think of Seattle, visions of constant rain and gray often come to mind. We’re here to tell you that it’s a myth! While it’s true that liquid does fall from a cloudy sky every now and then, there’s still a magical time that brings loads of sun and gorgeous weather. Summer in Seattle is simply spectacular, and much of the accompanying fun happens right in Cyrene’s own backyard on Seattle’s waterfront. Here is our guide to enjoying the best season in one of the best cities in the world!

Free First Thursdays at Seattle Art Museum

Creativity and artistic expression is kind of a big deal in the Pacific Northwest, so it’s no surprise that the Emerald City is home to a fantastic art museum. The SAM not only boasts an ever-expanding 25,000-piece collection, but also world-famous special exhibits and educational programs. Fortunately, for art lovers and the art-curious alike, summer in Seattle means free first Thursdays at the SAM. As the name implies, admission fees for SAM collections and installations are waived on the first Thursday of every month,  so it’s definitely a Summer activity in Seattle you shouldn’t miss.

KEXP Rocks the Dock

Seattle is arguably the music capital of the world, and many locals will tell you it’s because of KEXP. For over four decades, KEXP DJs have been introducing Seattleites to artists and bands that grow to become the biggest music acts in the world. On July 7, KEXP kicks off the Hot Spot series of free Seattle events with the Rocks the Dock concert. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., the hottest local musicians will be performing against the beautiful backdrop of the Waterfront Park.

Waterfront Beach Party

It’s not summer in Seattle unless you spend some time at the beach! And, we’re not talking about just laying out in the sun on a towel (not that there’s anything wrong with that). In true Emerald City style, the ultimate beach experience includes live music and the hustle and bustle of the Waterfront Park. From 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on July 8, Pier 58 will be filled with the sounds of wildlife, waves, and reggae and surf tunes.

World Cup Celebration

Have any plans for World Cup Finals weekend? Might we suggest some family fun at Waterfront Park? The World Cup Celebration is a must-do event happening on July 14 and 15. From 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., you get to enjoy some good live music while the kiddos sharpen their soccer skills in the Soccer Octagon. It’ll help you forget that (sniffle, sniffle) the United States isn’t a part of the World Cup this year.

K-Pop Now!

If summer in Seattle doesn’t automatically make you think about Korean pop music, it soon will! In the spirit of embracing diversity (and a craze that’s sweeping the world), K-Pop Now! is a celebration of Korean culture through a talent show, as well as special music, dance, and martial arts performances. All the fun is occurring at — you guessed it — Waterfront Park. So, mark your calendar for July 28 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. because this will be one of the coolest parties to check out this year.

Honorable Mentions (Not on Seattle’s Waterfront, but Still Worth Mentioning)

While the Waterfront neighborhood may be our favorite spot for summer in Seattle, we also want to mention other nearby areas that are hosting some killer Seattle events:

Seattle International Beerfest (July 6 to 7 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.; July 8 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.)

The Pacific Northwest has some of the best brewers in the country and many of them will be pouring their best suds in the Fisher Lawn and Pavilion at the Seattle Center.

Capitol Hill Block Party (July 20 to 22 at 3 p.m.)

Summer in Seattle turns the Capitol Hill neighborhood into a music lover’s paradise. Father John Misty, BROCKHAMPTON, and Dillon Francis are headlining this year’s Capitol Hill Block Party, which features over 90 local and national music acts across six different stages.

Bumbershoot (August 31 to September 2 at 1 p.m.)

In August, all of Seattle Center becomes home to one of the biggest music and art festivals in North America. This year includes mega acts such as The Chainsmokers, Ludacris, and Blondie.

This is going to be an amazing Seattle summer! Make sure to do it right by hitting up one of our suggested events!

At Cyrene, we feel incredibly lucky to be on Seattle’s waterfront, and just a hop, skip, and a jump away from all the other major Emerald City neighborhoods.
