Summer is the season all of us Seattleites find ourselves patiently waiting for. Despite our 8 months of clouds and rain, there is hardly anywhere in the world we would rather be than Summer in Seattle. The weather is perfect, the sky is blue, and the water and mountains are right at our fingertips. The city comes alive and all across the Downtown Seattle Waterfront, the streets and storefronts boom and bustle with people. So today, we are going to talk about just how we would spend a perfect summer day on the Seattle Waterfront.

Visit a Seattle Park

Start off with a hang out session in the park with friends! Seattle has some of the best parks in the country and Myrtle Edwards Park right on the Seattle Waterfront is no exception. Just a short 20 minute walk from Downtown to Belltown and you will find yourself along the Seattle Waterfront gazing up at the Olympic Mountains in all their glory. Conveniently located right next to this waterfront park is the Olympic Sculpture Garden, which is free and a great place to chill out with a cup of coffee and a book and watch the world go by. A must on a sunny day in Downtown Seattle.

Visit Pike Place Market

Next, of course, is Pike Place Market! There is hardly anything more quintessentially Seattle, other than perhaps the Space Needle, and for good reason. Wandering around the market exploring food vendors, flower shops, boutiques, and listening to the hustle and bustle of the people is an endless source of fun along the Seattle Waterfront. So head on over and see for yourself!

Take in Some Culture

There are options for taking in some culture all across Seattle’s waterfront. A few of our favorites are Benaroya Hall, a cutting edge performing arts venue right in the heart of Downtown Seattle. With upcoming shows ranging from their Summer Festival Series, all the way to legendary folk-pianist George Winston, there is something for everyone.

If paintings and mixed-media art is more your thing, perhaps you would rather head to the Seattle Art Museum located conveniently right across from Cyrene Apartments! With legendary art shows such as Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrors showing currently, this place is a must for any tourist or local and makes for the perfect addition to any Downtown Seattle day. Maybe it is for that reason we have blogged about these two places previously on our Cyrene blog.

Take an Island Day Trip

Perhaps catching a ferry from the Downtown Waterfront pier to a remote island in the San Juans is more your style. Hop right on the boat at Pikes for a journey to Bainbridge Island or Vashon Island and enjoy a quiet day spent overlooking Seattle and the Olympic Mountains. If you are looking for more information on this, check out the blog post we have written previously all about it!

Waterfront Events Courtesy of Friends of the Waterfront

Last but not least, the Friends of Waterfront Seattle is a community group that has worked tirelessly to put on Waterfront events that draw a diverse and energetic crowd and they are succeeding in a huge way. We have had so much fun previously attending shows like Funk & Soul by the Sound or free concerts at the Olympic Sculpture Garden overlooking the Seattle Waterfront. Check them out for yourself. There is a show for everyone!
